Changes

  • Document that Unity Hub 3.7+ no longer shows Return license for Personal licenses on the GitHub activation page, and link to the returning-a-license guide for seat recovery.
  • Advise returning a Professional license in Unity Hub before the first CI run when it was activated locally, so cloud builds do not consume an extra seat.

Closes #463

Checklist

  • Read the contribution guide and accept the
    code of conduct
  • Readme (updated or not needed)
  • Tests (added, updated or not needed)
  • yarn lint passes
  • yarn test passes
  • yarn build completes without errors

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Clarified that Unity Hub 3.7.0 and later may not show the option to return a Personal license. Users can skip returning it after copying the .ulf file, or follow the separate guide if an active seat blocks CI.
    • Added instructions to return a local Unity Plus or Pro license in Unity Hub before the first CI run.

Clarify that Unity Hub no longer offers Return license for Personal
licenses and document returning Professional licenses in Hub before CI.

Walkthrough

The activation page now explains when Personal-license users can skip returning a license and when they should use the return guide. It also instructs Unity Plus and Pro users to return a local license before their first CI run.

Explanation

The description follows the required structure, explains the documentation changes, references the linked issue, and reports validation results. The contribution guide and code of conduct checklist item remains unchecked, but the description is otherwise complete and relevant.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #463 has one coding-relevant documentation objective set, and this PR implements both parts in docs/03-github/02-activation.mdx.

  1. Personal license return instructions for Unity Hub 3.7.0 [#463]: The base file has no return-license step for Personal licenses. The head adds step 6 under "Personal license". It states that Unity Hub 3.7.0 and later no longer show a Return license action for Personal licenses. It tells users they can skip this step after copying the .ulf file. It links to /docs/github/returning-a-license for the case where an active Personal seat blocks CI. The link target matches docs/03-github/05-returning-a-license.mdx. The issue refers to "step 7" at lines L51-53. Those line references do not match the head file. The head file has no step 7 in that section. The PR addresses the requirement by content, so the mismatch does not leave the objective unmet.

  2. Professional-license guidance [#463]: The head adds a paragraph at the start of "Professional license". It tells users who activated Unity Plus or Pro locally to return that license in Unity Hub > Preferences > Licenses before the first CI run. This matches the issue suggestion to return the Professional license before trying it in the cloud.

The objectives are documentation changes. No automated test requirement appears in the issue. The PR checklist reports lint, test, and build results. Those results are not verified in this assessment and do not change the verdict, because the issue has no coding requirement beyond the documentation text.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The whole-PR diff against the merge base changes one file, docs/03-github/02-activation.mdx, with 10 added lines and no deletions. Both hunks map directly to #463: the new Personal-license step about the missing Unity Hub return option, and the new Professional-license return advice. No unrelated sections, files, or code changes appear in the diff. The change does not include unrelated refactoring or other documentation edits.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

No eligible functions found in the changed files. Skipping docstring coverage check. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 0 functions across 0 files. (1 skipped: 1 unsupported.)

Sign out of Unity Hub after copying .ulf.

Copying .ulf does not return the Personal seat. If the local Personal activation remains active and no spare seat exists, CI can fail with no available seats. The linked guide documents signing out of Unity Hub as the Personal-license return flow. Make sign-out the normal action and retain the guide for stale activations.
